Bob Iger, the longtime chief executive of The Walt Disney Company and one of the most powerful figures in the entertainment industry, will step down on March 18, handing leadership to parks chief Josh D’Amaro. Iger returned to the role in 2022 during a turbulent period for the company, as losses in its streaming business mounted and internal strategy came under pressure. His departure now comes as Disney stabilizes and prepares for a shift in direction.
During his tenure, Iger oversaw the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, turning Disney into a dominant force across film, television and theme parks. The company is now moving away from aggressive streaming expansion and focusing more on its parks, resorts and in-person experiences, which continue to generate the bulk of its profits. Iger, a prominent Jewish business leader and longtime supporter of Israel, leaves behind a company largely shaped by his strategy as a new phase begins under incoming leadership.
